"This is the true kindness of God. Stand strong in it!"

A new translation of Peter's first letter in the language of children.
Every verse, every chapter - fully illustrated with captivating colour and stories. These are God's Very Special Letters.

You can also add on our Family Reading Guide - to help kids get the most out of God's word - with 150+ discussion questions, activities, prayer ideas, and deeper insights into the letter.

One of the first volumes in the ground-breaking Epistles for Kids series.
These letters in the Bible have changed lives and changed the world for thousands of years. We want to do everything we can to help kids access, hear, and believe the message of God within them.

Here is a Bible that looks and feels like it was made for them, with over 50+ pages of stunning and immersive illustrations that promote deep exploration and comprehension of the text.

Most kids' Bibles skip over this part of the Scriptures, or provide a brief paraphrase. But this is a new translation, translated with serious care from the original Greek language, using only words that children use in the schoolyard every day.

Whether you are young or old - come on a journey with Silvanus as he travels around the region of Turkey to deliver the Apostle Peter's letter to the churches. Listen in, as three children with very different stories and backgrounds hear about God's wonderful plan for them. Follow along as they discover their privileged place in the unfolding story of God's salvation - even angels long to see what they can see! Hear the call to shine brightly in a dark world, as we live far away from our true home in heaven. Be encouraged to endure, as Peter calls Christians to follow in the way of Christ, being ready to suffer, and always full of good deeds along the way.

It's all there in 1 Peter - and it's ready to be explored by children and families together like never before.

______________

Matt Dodd ever since he was young, Matt has loved nothing more than to open God's word and help people to hear it, read it, and understand it for themselves. The Open Word project grew out of his experiences in Church ministry over the past 20 years. He wants to identify the resources we lack, and do everything he can to help fill those gaps. Matt is married to Erica, with 4 young kids. They live in Sydney, Australia, where he is the Senior Pastor at Lakemba Anglican Church. Matt works part time on The Open Word to support his ministry among a community with more limited resources.

Thom Bransdon is a cartoonist and illustrator who loves making art and comics for young people. He lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife and two young sons. Thom joined The Open Word in 2023 to illustrate the Epistles for Kids. This has been the perfect opportunity to put Thom's passion for storytelling through art to good use, visualising a part of the Bible so rarely drawn on the page. Many of us struggle to imagine what the early Church might have looked like. These historical characters are so rarely seen, even in Christian tradition. Thom has the pleasure of looking through historical references and imaging what these early Christian communities may have been like. Thom works full time for The Open Word.

“For the child, the Epistles have long been unread letters at the end of the Bible. Not anyone more. The Epistles for Kids has changed that. Books like Philippians, Colossians and 1 Peter are now accessible for every child. These books are beautifully illustrated and lyrically written. They are edifying for both adults and children. A great resource for a church to use to explore a letter together, for parents to read with their children, or for children to read themselves. What a joy it is to see these precious letters come to life for children."  Sandy Galea, Founder & Director of Kidswise
