This short but concise book looks at the issues raised by Arminianism in the Remostrants (early 1600's) as they concerned the teaching, not just of Calvin, but of the Reformed Faith and the Reformed Churches. We are reminded that aside from the massive attendance at the Westminister Assembly in England (made up of scholars) this Synod of Dort was the largest gathering of reformed pastors in history from around Europe to deal with the five objections to the reformed faith. This books provides an excellent overview, summary, and even tackles the objections made by Arminians about the views of the biblical texts that are the pillars of the Reformed Doctrines of Grace. The back section contains the Errors of the Arminians and the detailed Articles of Faith from the Bible used by the pastors to explain each of the five "Heads" of concern raised...I highly recommend this book to the pastor or lay person who wants to truly see how the doctrines of grace came to become the foundation of true biblical faith. How the points and answers were developed long after John Calvin was dead and many of the points can be traced to Luther, Melanchthon, Beza and Calvin. This book is not about "Calvinism." It is a power treatise on the true doctrines of grace and God's divine role in our salvation and perseverance to the end. Well footnoted and with good bottom notes, this is worthy book for everyone.
