Eldership in Action, through biblical governance of the church
This insightful resource explains in detail how a church can be truly biblical in its governance and leadership, while simultaneously fulfilling the Great Commission. The focus is on the elders' collective responsibilities as well as practical aspects of putting biblical structures and methods to work. Also explored are implementation techniques: from the small church, to the church plant, to the large church with many members and ministries.

Swartley brings a biblical picture of the office of Elder like no other author I have found. Complete with all the scriptural references on Elders and teaching on this most noble calling of Elder. If you think being an Elder in a church is to have board meetings and thumbs up or down the Clergies proposals this book will blow your mind. As an Elder I was incredibly challenged by the scriptures as to the role of Elders in service to Christ and His church. This is a must read for every church leader. The practical guidance on decision making, deliberation and Elder board roles was also very helpful in overcoming some of the obstacles and road blocks that can come up in a plurality of leaders. If more church leaders read this book they would see their Elders empowered with the word of God to care for, lead and serve their churches like never before. Warning- If you are a solo-leader who enjoys the lime light and only wants people around that are willing to say yes to all your plans and do what you want to do with the church- DON"T READ THIS BOOK or let any of your church members read it, unless, you are interested in a Leadership Reformation.
