One of Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s most significant ministries was to the hundreds of preachers who were trained in the Pastors’ College which he founded. In 1865 he began an Annual Conference for these men at which he customarily delivered a presidential address. The most outstanding of these were reprinted after his death in the form of this book. While Spurgeon is always both stimulating and challenging, the context in which these addresses were given brought the best out of him and gave them a unique quality. Full of biblical exposition, they also sparkle with a delightful wit. Here is Spurgeon at his finest as a man with a pastoral heart par excellence. An All-Round Ministry is a work to which Christian ministers and leaders will return again and again for direction, wisdom, and encouragement.

______________

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) was England’s best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. After a childhood in Essex, when he owed much to Christian parents and grandparents, he was converted in 1850 at the age of fifteen. He was then assisting at a school in Cambridge and it was in these Cambridge years that he came to Baptist principles and was called to the Baptist pastorate in the near-by village of Waterbeach. From there he moved to New Park Street, London in 1854 at the age of nineteen and then settled at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. He was one of champions of the doctrine of grace, great orator that hits at the conscience of those who hear him, and a prolific writers. All in that Spurgeon did was to seek to win souls unto Christ, and exalt his Saviour before the world.
