These letters in the Bible have changed lives and changed the world for thousands of years. We want to everything we can to help kids access, hear, and believe the message of God within them.

Here is a Bible that looks and feels like it was made for them, with over 50+ pages of stunning and immersive illustrations that promote deep exploration and comprehension of the text.

Most kids' Bibles skip over this part of the Scriptures, or provide only a brief paraphrase. But this is a new translation, translated with serious care from the original Greek language, using only words that children use in the schoolyard every day.

Whether you are young or old - come on a journey to the ancient city of Philippi, as Epaphroditus arrives with a letter from Paul who is imprisoned in Rome. Watch as the church there opens the scroll to hear all about Paul's incredible courage and dedication to the mission of the good news of Christ. Follow Christ as he walks the path of humility to the cross, and calls us to follow in his ways for the unity of the church. Be refreshed by Paul's single-minded joy in Christ his treasure and righteousness, and be inspired to run with him towards the heavenly finish line. Listen in on his advice to the quarrelling co-workers in chapter 4, and his thankfulness for the generosity of his dear friends.

It's all there in Philippians - and it's ready to be explored by children like never before.

Let's open up God's Very Special Letters - let's open up the Epistles for Kids!

Matt Dodd ever since he was young, Matt has loved nothing more than to open God's word and help people to hear it, read it, and understand it for themselves. The Open Word project grew out of his experiences in Church ministry over the past 20 years. He wants to identify the resources we lack, and do everything he can to help fill those gaps. Matt is married to Erica, with 4 young kids. They live in Sydney, Australia, where he is the Senior Pastor at Lakemba Anglican Church. Matt works part time on The Open Word to support his ministry among a community with more limited resources.

Thom Bransdon is a cartoonist and illustrator who loves making art and comics for young people. He lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife and two young sons. Thom joined The Open Word in 2023 to illustrate the Epistles for Kids. This has been the perfect opportunity to put Thom's passion for storytelling through art to good use, visualising a part of the Bible so rarely drawn on the page. Many of us struggle to imagine what the early Church might have looked like. These historical characters are so rarely seen, even in Christian tradition. Thom has the pleasure of looking through historical references and imaging what these early Christian communities may have been like. Thom works full time for The Open Word.

“When I first saw this project, my first thought was ‘Why on earth has no-one thought of this before?’ I still don’t have an answer for that, but I have been completely persuaded that we need to do everything we can to ensure that these brilliant translations of the New Testament get into the hands of as many people as possible - children, parents, grandparents, whole churches - because everyone will benefit from this. The translation work is careful and beautifully appropriate for children. The illustrations are delightful and are carefully chosen to reinforce the message of the text. I commend this project wholeheartedly."  Gary Millar, Principal, Queensland Theological College
